Van Rysel GRVL AF Recall: 1,150 Gravel Bikes, Loose Nut

Decathlon America is recalling about 1,150 Van Rysel GRVL AF gravel bikes because the front lock nut can work loose, which can let the front wheel shift or come out. The CPSC notice, Recall No. 27-017, is dated Oct. 8, 2026. It calls the problem a crash hazard with a risk of serious injury or death.

The agency reports no incidents or injuries. Decathlon America LLC, based in San Francisco, imported the bikes, and they were built in China.

Which bikes are covered

CPSC lists four models. The numbers are the ones it prints beside each name.

ModelNumber
Van Rysel GRVL AF Sword Brown CN FR8911304
Van Rysel GRVL AF Apex Beige CN FR8911305
Van Rysel GRVL AF Sword Pink CN FR8911308
Van Rysel GRVL AF GRX Black8929130

Bicycle Retailer & Industry News ran its own report the same day. Its unit count and model list match CPSC, and it adds that the bikes came in sizes XS through XL.

A Yahoo News roundup names four colors: graphite black, cream, granite pink and coriander brown. It also says “more than 1,000” bikes. That is looser than the official figure, so we use about 1,150.

How to check your bike

The Product ID settles it. Look at the frame by the bottom bracket, where the cranks attach, and find the barcode label. A recalled bike has an ID that begins with 5.

Both CPSC and Bicycle Retailer give that same rule.

It was an REI bike

Here is the odd part for a Decathlon recall. CPSC names REI Co-op locations across the country and REI.com as the sellers, and does not list Decathlon stores. Sales ran from March 2025 through August 2026, at prices from $1,400 to $2,300.

So if you bought a Van Rysel gravel bike from REI, check the label even if you never visited a Decathlon.

Getting it fixed

  • The remedy: a free check and repair covering the front fork assembly.
  • Where: any REI Co-op location, per CPSC. Bicycle Retailer says to go to the nearest one.
  • If REI is out of reach: Decathlon Customer Service takes calls at 415-408-5494, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific, Monday through Friday. Email goes to support.america@decathlon.com. The company also has a page at decathlon.com/pages/product-safety-recalls.

The Yahoo roundup quotes the notice telling owners to stop riding these bikes until the work is done. We would park it. A front wheel is not the place to gamble.

None of the sources say how long the repair takes, or whether REI wants an appointment first. Call the store before you haul a bike over.

The notice also does not say whether any of these bikes are still on sale. CPSC’s sale window ends in August 2026.
