My name is Michael Thompson, a 35-year-old web developer and cycling coach based in Boulder, Colorado. Over the past ten years, my passion for cycling has transformed from a casual hobby into a way of life. As a lover of all things cycling, I am thrilled to share my journey with others who share the same enthusiasm for this incredible sport.
It all started when I stumbled upon a secondhand Trek 520 touring bike at a garage sale. Intrigued by the prospect of self-supported bicycle travel, I embarked on a two-week solo tour of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This adventure ignited a deep love for cycling, leading me to participate in various races from local criteriums and charity rides to grueling gravel races like the Dirty Kanza and the Belgian Waffle Ride.
My passion for cycling led me to start a website called BicyclingLand.com, where I share news, views, and reviews related to the sport. The website has become a hub for like-minded individuals, providing information about the latest gear, cycling routes, and professional races, as well as featuring in-depth reviews and guides for both beginners and experienced cyclists.
Over the years, I’ve acquired several bikes, including a Trek Domane SLR for road racing, a Canyon Grail for gravel riding, and a Santa Cruz Bronson for mountain biking. My garage has become a shrine to my passion, filled with meticulously organized tools and spare parts, always at the ready for any repair or upgrade.
As a web developer, I enjoy the flexibility that my career offers, allowing me to pursue my cycling interests while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. But it’s my work as a certified cycling coach that genuinely fuels my passion. I have the privilege of working with both competitive and recreational cyclists, helping them enhance their performance, fitness, and riding skills, all while cultivating their love for the sport.
When I’m not on my bike or managing BicyclingLand.com, I love spending time with my two energetic Border Collies, Scout and Leo. Together, we explore the beautiful trails surrounding Boulder or play fetch at our local dog park.
As a die-hard fan of professional cycling, I am an ardent supporter of the EF Education-NIPPO team. I admire their spirit of innovation and commitment to nurturing young talent. My love for Rapha’s Pro Team collection stems not only from its performance and style but also the brand’s dedication to fostering a robust cycling culture.
My life experiences stand as a testament to the transformative power of cycling, and I take great pride in sharing my passion with others through my coaching and BicyclingLand.com. I hope that my contagious enthusiasm inspires those around me to embrace the challenge and experience the pure joy of riding a bike. As a cyclist, coach, and advocate, I am proud to be part of the vibrant cycling community.
