The best three-wheel electric bike for most adults is the Lectric XP Trike2. It folds, carries 415 lbs and lists from $1,499. Skip it if you want a recumbent seat, a dealer network or a bigger battery, because other trikes below do those better.
Ten e-trikes made the cut, sorted by how you will use them: folding, commuting, hauling, comfort for older riders and recumbent seating. We have not ridden any of them. Picks rest on maker specs, published reviews and owner reports, linked as we go. Prices are list prices from the maker or a retailer page in early October 2026, and they move with sales.

This list leaves out regular adult tricycles sold with an add-on motor kit, such as the Schwinn Meridian and Huffy models. They are not e-trikes out of the box, and the final cost depends on the install. The conversion section below covers that route.

Key Considerations When Choosing a Three-Wheel Electric Bike
Purpose and Intended Use
Start with the job. A folding trike that fits a condo closet is a different buy than a 110-lb fat-tire hauler.
Short errands and neighborhood loops need a 400 to 500 Wh battery and a basket. Daily hauling, hills or a heavier rider call for a 750W motor and 800 Wh or more. If you are riding to get fitter, pair a pedal-assist trike with a cycling plan for seniors.
Motor Power and Local Regulations
Federal law defines a low-speed electric bicycle as a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with working pedals, a motor of no more than 750 watts (1 horsepower) and a motor-only top speed under 20 mph. The text is in 15 U.S.C. 2085.
Most states layer three classes on top. Class 1 is pedal assist up to 20 mph. Class 2 adds a throttle, also to 20 mph. Class 3 is pedal assist up to 28 mph. Our guide to e-bike classes has the details.
Trikes sit at the slow end. Rad lists the RadTrike at 14 mph, and Mooncool lists the TK1 at 16 mph. State and local rules decide where you can ride and whether you need registration, so check yours.
Battery Capacity and Range
Watt-hours matter more than amp-hours. Multiply volts by amp-hours: a 48V 10Ah pack is 480 Wh.
Makers quote their best range, usually on the lowest assist level with a light rider on flat ground. Addmotor’s 85 to 90 miles on a 960 Wh pack is that kind of number. Expect far less with cargo or hills.

Weight Capacity and Stability
Payloads on this list run from 250 to 500 lbs, and the figure usually includes rider and cargo. Read the split. Electric Bike Report lists the RadTrike at 325 lbs for the rider plus 60 lbs on the rear rack. Addmotor splits the Grandtan into 350 lbs of rider and 100 lbs of cargo.
Trikes weigh 76 to 110 lbs. A wide stance resists tipping but may not fit through a door. The Retrospec Boca Rev measures 30 inches wide, for example.
Comfort and Seating
Trikes come in two layouts. A delta has one wheel in front and two behind, and the front wheel steers. A tadpole has two wheels in front and one behind. Nearly every adult e-trike for sale is a delta.

Storage and Cargo Solutions
Most e-trikes come with or take a rear basket. Mooncool ships the TK1 with front and rear baskets and a cargo net. Keep heavy items low and over the rear axle, and stay under the rack rating (Rad lists 60 lbs for the RadTrike’s rear rack).
For loads beyond a few grocery bags, compare cargo e-bikes. The two-wheel cargo e-bikes carry more, but they need balance at a stop. A trike does not.

Folding matters if you store the trike in a closet or haul it in an SUV. Even folded, these are heavy, so plan for two people or a removable battery.
1. Lectric XP Trike2

Lectric’s XP Trike2 page lists both versions, front and rear parking brakes, hydraulic brakes and a front suspension fork. Lectric says it has the lowest standover height in its lineup. Electric Bike Review lists the weight at 79 lbs and the payload at 415 lbs in its 2026 trike roundup.
The original XP Trike page is gone from Lectric’s site. The XP Trike2 is the current model. It is our pick for most riders because of the price, the fold and the parking brakes.
2. Addmotor Citytri E-310
Price: $1,599 on sale, $1,999 regular | Motor: 750W | Battery: 48V 20Ah (960 Wh) | Range claim: 90 miles | Payload: 360 lbs
The Citytri E-310 is the big-battery folder. Addmotor lists 86 lbs, a 7-speed drivetrain, UL 2271 and 2849 certification, and US shipping. The 90-mile figure is for the lowest assist level, so plan on much less in daily use. Ebike Escape published a review of the Citytri E-310 if you want an outside read.
3. Velotric Triker
Price: about $2,400 to $2,500 | Motor: 750W | Battery: 804 Wh | Range claim: up to 60 miles | Payload: 500 lbs including rider
The Triker has a foldable frame, an 80 mm suspension fork, 180 mm hydraulic disc brakes and a padded saddle with an adjustable backrest. It weighs 85.8 lbs. Velotric’s SensorSwap lets you choose torque or cadence sensing, which changes how the assist feels. New Atlas covered the Triker at launch.
It costs more than the Lectric. The 500-lb payload and the backrest are the reasons to pay.

4. Rad Power RadTrike
Price: $1,699 | Motor: 750W geared hub | Battery: 48V 10Ah, about 480 Wh | Range claim: up to 55 miles | Payload: 415 lbs
The RadTrike tops out at 14 mph. Electric Bike Report’s RadTrike review puts the total weight at 82 lbs (73.6 lbs without the battery) and describes a single-speed chain drive. It is not a belt drive. That review splits the 415-lb payload into 325 lbs for the rider, 60 lbs on the rear rack and 30 lbs on the front rack. Listings disagree on battery size (480 or 504 Wh), so confirm at checkout.
Check the company situation before you buy. Rad’s warranty page says Rad Life Mobility issues the warranty on products bought in the US or Canada after May 15, 2026. Electric Bike Explorer reports that Rad’s assets were sold in a court-approved sale that closed February 27, 2026. The warranty ends when the bike changes hands, so a used RadTrike comes without one. 5. Retrospec Boca Rev
Price: $1,599 from Retrospec, $1,699.99 at some retailers | Motor: 500W | Battery: 48V 10.4Ah (500 Wh) | Range claim: 49 miles | Payload: 500 lbs
The Boca Rev is a Class 2 trike with 14 mph assist, according to listings on Retrospec’s trike page and retailer pages. It weighs about 84.6 lbs, measures 69 inches long and 30 inches wide, and has a 16-inch standover. Reviewers put real range at 25 to 40 miles. Ebike Escape’s Boca Rev review highlights dealer support, which matters on a heavy bike you cannot ship back easily.

6. Addmotor Grandtan M-340
Price: $2,199 | Motor: 750W rear drive | Battery: 48V 20Ah Samsung (960 Wh) | Range claim: up to 85 miles | Payload: 350 lbs rider plus 100 lbs cargo
The Grandtan M-340 is a fat-tire trike with 4-inch tires, a mechanical disc brake with a motor cutoff and a 5-inch LCD. It weighs about 110 lbs, so it stays put on gravel and cannot be lifted into a car. Addmotor also sells a 1,000W mid-drive Grandtan Turbo and a $2,799 full-suspension Grandtan X.
7. Mooncool TK1 Folding
Price: about $1,500, up to $1,999 at some retailers | Motor: 500W (1,000W peak) | Battery: 48V 14.5Ah (696 Wh) | Range claim: 35 to 70 miles | Payload: 450 lbs
Mooncool says the TK1 weighs 89.9 lbs. Electric Bike Report measured 94.6 lbs in its TK1 review and lists it as Class 1 and Class 2 up to 16 mph. It includes front and rear baskets, a cargo net, lights with turn signals, hydraulic disc brakes and 20 x 3 inch tires. That accessory pile makes it a good value for errands.
Best electric trikes for older riders
Look for a low step-through, a parking brake and a motor you can control. More power is not better if it jerks you off the line.
8. Sixthreezero EVRYjourney (250W)
Price: from $1,299.99 | Motor: 250W front hub | Battery: 36V 10.4Ah (374 Wh) | Range claim: 10 to 50 miles | Payload: 300 lbs
The EVRYjourney has a step-through frame, a 7-speed Shimano Tourney drivetrain, a UL 2271 battery and a large rear basket. Sixthreezero lists 76.2 lbs and a fit range of 5 feet to 6 feet 2 inches. The small motor suits flat ground and gentle assist. We would skip it if you ride hills.
9. Pedego Trike
Price: $2,899 | Motor: 250W geared front hub | Battery: 36V 11Ah (396 Wh) | Range claim: up to 33 miles | Payload: 250 lbs
The Pedego Trike is a Class 2 trike with a 3-speed internal hub that shifts at a standstill, adjustable handlebars, a seat backrest and a basket. Electric Bike Review lists it at about 80 lbs in its Pedego Trike review. It is the priciest and smallest-battery trike here. You pay for the comfort features and the brand, and the 250-lb payload rules out heavier riders.
Best recumbent-style electric trike
10. Addmotor Arisetan II M-360
Price: about $2,500 to $3,150 depending on version | Motor: 750W rear drive | Battery: 48V 20Ah (960 Wh) | Range claim: up to 85 miles | Payload: 380 lbs
The Arisetan II M-360 is a semi-recumbent trike with fat tires and a rear basket. Addmotor lists 110 lbs and a rider height of 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet 6 inches. Shorter riders should look at the smaller M-360 mini. A reclined seat spreads weight across your back, which helps if upright saddles bother your wrists or hips. Full recumbent trikes from specialist brands cost more.
Turning an ordinary adult tricycle into an electric one
You can electrify a regular adult tricycle. It is a project, not a shortcut. Kits fall into two groups.
Front hub kits
A front hub kit replaces the front wheel with a motor wheel. It is the simplest install: swap the wheel, mount the battery and add the controller and throttle or sensor. Check that the fork width and axle size match the kit.
A delta trike carries less weight on its single front wheel than on the rear pair. A front motor can lose grip on wet or loose hills.
Mid-drive kits
A mid-drive kit powers the crank and drives the trike’s own chain. It uses the existing gears. On many trikes the chain runs to a special rear axle, and crank fit varies, so ask the kit maker if it works with your frame before you buy.
Brakes and installation
Motor and battery add weight and speed. Old coaster brakes or small rim brakes may not be enough, so upgrade to disc brakes or at least fresh pads and cables. Pick a kit with a brake cutoff switch that kills the motor when you pull the lever.
Have a bike shop do the install. They will check axle torque, wiring and frame stress. Keep the motor at or under 750W if you want to stay inside the federal low-speed definition. Riding a three-wheeler safely
A trike does not lean. A two-wheeler tilts into a corner. A trike stays flat, and the inside rear wheel can lift if you turn too fast.
- Slow before the turn, not in it. Hard braking mid-corner and a throttle twist both upset a delta trike.
- Stay off side slopes. Cambered roads and driveway edges tip a trike more easily than a bike.
- Load low. Heavy baskets sit high and raise the tipping point. Stay under the rack rating.
- Use the parking brake on hills. Lectric lists front and rear parking brakes, and Addmotor lists a parking brake on its trikes. Brake early on descents, since 80 to 110 lbs of bike plus rider and cargo takes longer to stop.
- Be seen. A trike is wider than a bike, and drivers misjudge it. A flag and a mirror help.
Practice in an empty parking lot first. Learn the turning radius and the throttle response before you go onto a street.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a license for an electric trike?
Usually not. Under the federal definition, a low-speed electric bike is not a motor vehicle. States set their own rules, and some add age limits or helmet rules for faster classes. A trike with a motor over 750W or a motor-only speed over 20 mph may be treated as a moped. Check your state DMV page.
Can I ride an electric trike in a bike lane?
Often yes, where your state lets Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes use bike lanes. Local trails and parks may ban motors. A 30-inch-wide trike fits a standard bike lane but not every gate, bollard or narrow path.
Are electric trikes good for seniors or people with balance problems?
They hold themselves up at a stop and at low speed, which removes the main balance worry. Look for a low step-through, a parking brake and gentle assist. A trike can still tip in a hard turn, and it does not fix dizziness or weak grip. Ask your doctor if balance is a medical issue.
Will an electric trike fit in my car?
Only some will. Folding models such as the Lectric XP Trike2, Citytri and Triker are the realistic choices, and they weigh 79 to 90 lbs. Addmotor lists the Citytri folded at about 44 x 34 x 25 inches. Pull the battery first to save weight. Many hitch racks are not rated for trikes, so check before you buy one.
