CPSC has recalled three bike helmets for failing the federal helmet standard. Two were sold on Amazon.com and one on Walmart.com. No injuries have been reported.
CPSC posted the notices on three Thursdays in September 2026: Victgoal on September 10, Tongyang on September 17 and 5Color on September 24. An earlier version of this post gave October 1 for all three. The dates here come from the notices.
All three are recalls with a full refund, not stand-alone CPSC warnings. The agency issues a warning instead when a seller won’t take part, as the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute explained in 2023.

What failing the standard means
CPSC says each helmet misses parts of the mandatory bicycle helmet standard. In plain terms, the parts are:
- Impact attenuation: how well the foam and shell absorb a hit.
- Retention system: whether the straps and buckle keep the helmet on your head.
- Positional stability: whether the helmet stays put instead of rolling off.
- Certification and labeling: the required certification and markings.
CPSC’s warning is blunt. A helmet that fails can leave the rider unprotected in a crash, and a head injury can be serious or fatal.
5Color children’s helmet and pads sets
We’d pull this one first. It fails the most requirements of the three, and it’s a child’s helmet.
CPSC’s 5Color notice covers one version: model YD-001, size small, in pink. The helmet has black padding, black straps and a black fit knob on the back. Each set also includes knee and elbow pads.
- Fit: size small, for a head about 18 to 22 inches around.
- Labels: the notice lists “Model No.: YD-001,” “Lot/Ref: YD-260320” and “Date 2026/03/20,” printed on the inside label and the packaging.
- Units and sales: about 324, sold on Amazon.com in May 2026 for $25 to $26. The notice doesn’t name the seller.
- Hazard: five failed requirements: labeling, certification, positional stability, the retention system and impact attenuation.
5Color is offering a full refund of the set. Call 833-382-6461 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central, Monday to Friday) or email FiveColorCS@163.com. You’ll be asked to cut the straps and email a photo of the destroyed helmet to that address. You can keep the pads.
NBC Montana also reported the recall on September 30.
Tongyang Cycling Basecamp HT-10
The Tongyang Cycling notice covers Basecamp-branded model HT-10, in green and black. It is size medium/large, for a head about 22.44 to 24.41 inches around. The helmet has red padding and black-and-red straps, with a buckle and fit knob in the same two colors.
- Labels: the word Basecamp runs along the sides of the helmet. “HT-10” is on a label inside.
- Units and sales: about 315, sold on Amazon.com from July 2024 through July 2026 for about $34.
- Hazard: it fails on impact attenuation, positional stability and certification. It also carries a button cell battery without the warning labels Reese’s Law requires.
The battery problem is separate from fit. A swallowed button cell can cause serious internal chemical burns and death, according to the notice. The notice doesn’t say where the battery sits in the helmet.
Tongyang is offering a full refund. Email tongyangshangwuus@hotmail.com or use the recall page on basecampbike.com (click “Recall” at the top). The notice lists no phone number. Cut the straps and email a photo of the destroyed helmet to the same address.
Bicycle Retailer and Industry News covered the recall the next day.
Victgoal HT-006 children’s helmet
The Victgoal notice is the narrowest of the three. It covers only helmets made in November 2025, so a Victgoal helmet with another production date falls outside it.
The helmet is red, size small, for a head about 19.68 to 21.25 inches around. Look for red padding, black straps with a silver reflective pattern at the middle, a black-and-red buckle and a black adjuster knob on the back.
- Labels: the inside label reads “Model HT-006,” “Production: 2025/11” and “Ref/Lot# 2025A1101.”
- Units and sales: about 40, sold on Walmart.com from March through June 2026 for $22 to $36. The notice doesn’t name the seller.
- Hazard: it fails on certification, positional stability and the retention system, which is the strap-and-buckle setup that keeps a helmet on.
Victgoal is offering a full refund. Email walmart@victgoal.com, the only contact the notice gives for the firm. You’ll cut the straps and send a photo of the destroyed helmet that shows its production date.
Bicycle Retailer and Industry News reported it on September 11.
What to do now
- Search your Amazon.com and Walmart.com order history for 5Color, Basecamp or Victgoal helmets.
- Read the label inside the helmet. Match the model number. For 5Color and Victgoal, match the lot or production date too.
- Stop using the helmet. If it’s a child’s, hand them a different helmet today.
- Save your receipt or order email. Photograph the inside label first, since Victgoal wants the production date visible.
- Contact the firm with the details above and ask for the refund.
- Cut the straps, photograph the destroyed helmet and email the photo to the address in your notice. 5Color owners can keep the pads.
If the firm doesn’t answer, call CPSC at 800-638-2772. A different brand or model isn’t covered by these three recalls. But a cheap, no-name helmet is worth checking against CPSC’s recall list.
